Multipurpose Training Centre for the Deaf (popularly known as MPTCD)/ located at 12-13, Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg (Qutab Institutional Area), New Delhi-110067, is a Vocational Training Centre for the Deaf boys and girls. The Centre has two separate buildings on its 1.5 acres campus. There are also open spaces for future expansion and playground.

Deaf students aged between 14-30 years are offered training in different trades. Presently, it runs 4 main trades, e.g. Computer-Graphics, (PGR & PGA), Photography, Fitter & Turner and Sewing & Technology. Each trade is subdivided in two batches for fresher and advanced students with duration of one year for each batch. The courses are kept equivalent to ITI curriculum. So, the total list of batches is as follows:

1) Sewing & Technology (ITI Recognized).

2) Photography. 

3) Fitter & Turner.

4) Computer (ITI Recognized).

Admission is conducted with prior notification and publicity. The printing course has been re-oriented by amalgamating with computerized techniques. Sewing & Technology and Computer courses got recognized by National Council of Vocational Training (ITI), Govt. of India. Initiative is going on for reorganization of other courses too. Academic season starts from August every year. Candidates seeking admission are required to qualify the screening test conducted by MPTCD and according to directive of ITI authority, Ministry of Technical Education, Delhi. Candidate who has passed at least VIII standard and 14 years of age are eligible for admission. Special cases are treated subject to individual merit. The Projects of AIFD are duly recognized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India, and it provides grants for this purpose. Since its inception (1977), MPTCD has produced more than 3K boys and girls and many of them have been gainfully employed.

Sewing & Technology: In tailoring section each student uses individual set of instruments including sewing machine both manual and motorized. Institute is planning to introduce modern computerized machine for skill training.

Photography: Photography students get opportunity to handle different types of cameras from vintage models to modern digital technology, including handling different photo-software. Photography students also learn to do graphic works related to photographer profession.

Computer: Computer students learn the basics of computer, Computer Operator Programming Assistant and Data-entry and later profession related graphic-printing using modern software. Students are also allowed practicing extra time after class hours under guidance of our instructor.

Fitter & Turner: Institute runs a unique combined technical course of Turner-Fitter-Welder for two years following ITI curriculums. Institute workshop has two types of lathe, drilling and grinding machines for tool making. Welding training is provided on the fourth quarter of training after the students’ concept is clear about metallurgy. Total protection measure is taken during the training. This combined course attracts numbers of small tools making factories and a good number of students from this trade are employed in the industry.

Admission 2024 Application process

Currently, MPTCD starts Computer Operator Programming Assistant (COPA) and Sewing Technology Courses, Deaf Candidates can apply they will have to visit the site to fill out the application form for Admission for COPA and Sewing Technology ITI Course 2024 – 2025. Candidates must read the eligibility criteria :

• Age Limit: The minimum age limit for admission to COPA & Sewing Technology ITI Courses is 14 years. There is no upper age limit. 
• Educational Qualification: The deaf candidates should have passed the 10th and 12th class from a recognized board and equivalent.
• Total seating capacity for COPA is 30 and Sewing Technology is 15.
